Massive fire at toxic waste facility!
Hey guys,
Sunday morning (normally a day of rest) and definitely not for the people of Prescot who have awoken by huge plumes of smoke from a toxic waste facility.
The fire started at around 6am this morning, and it is now almost 11am and it is still going.
The most worrying thing about this fire is that it is toxic waste which is hazardous and will be harmful for residents in the area. Local people have been warned to keep windows shut as the smoke is quickly spreading.
This facility was approved in 2012 by KMBC for the site to be located in Prescot. It's hard to believe that KMBC actually approved this as the waste is harmful and the facility is surrounded by houses, supermarkets and most importantly people.
It is inevitable that something like this was going to happen, and maybe if people who voted for this facility to be located in Prescot had thought through the complications and affects this site might have, it may not have happened.
This type of toxic waste facility should have never been located in an area with buildings, homes, shops and people. It should have been located in a non-residential area.
I hope firefighters and anyone involved stays safe!
Beth
