Sponge Cake
Hi everyone, i made a Jam Sponge Cake in school and it as great. Today i
want to give you a tutorial on how to make this and some tips you might need to make this.
Tutorial
Firstly and most importantly you need to prepare yourself. This includes getting your equipment and ingredients together, washing your hands and work surface to be clear from bacteria.
Remember if you don't wash the work surface or you hands properly it could lead to a lot of germs spreading such as bacteria.
7 steps of washing your hands:
use hot soapy water
wash palms and backs of hands
wash inside of fingers
remember to wash thumbs
wash nails
rinse hands with hot water
dry with paper towel and turn the tap off with a paper towel, then throw away.
The reason to turn off the tap with a paper towel is because any bacteria which was on there before you washed your hands could spread back on to your hands... always remember this tip!!!
ingredients
200g self raising flour
200g caster sugar
200g 'soft' butter or margarine
4 eggs
3-4 tbsp of jam
1 tbsp of baking powder
1 tbsp of icing sugar
Pre heat the oven to 180 degrees celcius
Firstly, pour 200g self raising flour into a bowl.
Then add 200g of butter into the bowl with the self raising flour. Remember the butter has to be soft.
Then add in 200g of caster sugar and add 4 eggs (try not to get any shell in the mixture)
Grab an electric whisk and start mixing all the ingredients together. A tip for mixing ingredients is always put the whisk in the bowl before you switch it on. You can stop mixing the ingredients when the mixture is soft and creamy.
Then split the mixture into two cake tins which have been lined and greased. Split the mixture evenly so the cakes are similar
Put the cakes into the oven for about 15-20 minutes. You can take the cakes out of the oven when they are golden brown and well risen.
Leave the cakes to cool for about 20 minutes and then you can decorate. You can add jam into the middle of your cakes and then sprinkle icing sugar over the top of the cake for a finishing touch
Then you can serve your cake!
I hope enjoyed the tips and tutorial. Let me know if you try making this cake and send me pictures to @bethfoodwriting with the hastag #BethsBlog!
Enjoy!
